Invited talk: Shake Table Research at the University of Nevada, Reno Large Scale Structures Laboratory

  Dr. Patrick N. Laplace
  Research Assistant Professor
  Laboratory Manager
  University of Nevada, Reno

Presentation Title:
Shake Table Research at the University of Nevada, Reno Large Scale Structures Laboratory
This talk will present an overview of the research conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno over the last 20 years. UNR has been conducting a variety of testing, from large scale bridge columns to 3-span curved bridges to qualification testing. Significant development effort has been applied to new control techniques for seismic simulators, such as numerical modeling and active control algorithms.

Dr. Laplace has 18 years experience in servo-hydraulic control and simulation of seismic shake tables. He develops data acquisition and instrumentation systems and supporting software. He has designed and installed a complete 6DOF shake table used for bridge research and qualification testing. As lab manager he is extensively involved in development, design, installation, set-up, testing, and analysis of all laboratory research projects. His primary interest is in improving the performance of shake table control.
