内容提要(Outline):

The structural efficiency of tall buildings heavily depends on the lateral stiffness and resistance capacity.  Among those structural systems for tall buildings, outriggers system is one of the most common systems especially for those with relatively regular floor plan. The use of outriggers in building structures can be traced back from early 50’s from the concept of deep beams. With the rise of building height, deep beams become concrete walls or now in a form of at least one story high steel truss type of outriggers. Because of the widened choice in material to be adopted in outriggers, the form and even the objective of using outriggers is also changed. Besides analysis, the design and construction issue of outriggers is somehow cannot be separated. Axial shortening effect between core and perimeter structures is unavoidable. This paper presents a state of the art review on the outriggers system in tall buildings including development history and applications of outriggers in tall buildings. The concept of outriggers, optimum topology, and design and construction consideration will also be discussed and presented.

报告人(About the Speaker):

Dr. Goman Ho, the Director of Arup China. He joint Arup in 1992 after his PhD study in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was the project manager of 300m tall Cheung Kong Center in HK, 700,000 m2 Beijing Fortune Plaza mixed development, the tallest building in Beijing - 330m China World Trade Center, CCTV, Beijing Capital International Airport T3, National Stadium, Water Cube, BJ Exhibition and Conference Center, 330m Tianjin Kerry Center and 600m tall Tianjin 117 project, ETON Dalian Center and Beijing South Station etc.
